Two Rites To Aries
Two Spells Calling Upon The Power of Aries
Preface
Aries is the sign that takes all the potential energy of the year’s end, and transmutes it into animating force for the year ahead. His fire burns away the struggles of the old year, preparing the earth for new life. Aries holds an additional esoteric side, that being the Goat of the Sabbat, upon who’s back the witch rides to dance on the mountaintops. Thus, two rites will be written: The practical rite for clearing the new year, and the esoteric rite of the Dreamer’s Sabbat.
Rite One: New Year's Fire
This first rite harnesses the potency of Aries to burn away old problems, struggles and thought processes, as well as provide energy for the goals of the New Year. To do this the following materials should be gathered:
● One red 7-day candle
● White liquid chalk
● Red chime candles
● Red flowers
● Copal mixed with Dragon’s Blood
● Carnelian
● Ginger
● Wormwood
● Bayberry
● Paper + Pen (red or orange are good colors)
● Red cloth + thread
● Optional: Aries Oil
At sunrise, or when the Sun in Aries is on the ascendant, prepare this ritual. Draw onto the glass the sigil of Aries and draw an image of Aries. A ram’s head is simple enough to do

Set the candle at the center of the workspace. You may wish to add additional items, such as a ram horn or skull, talismans of Aries, and so on. Onto the piece of paper, write all of your goals for the year ahead. Take the candles, and write onto them anything you wish to release from the old year. Bad habits, thought patterns, people, and so forth. Prepare the incense, and dress the glass candle with olive oil and the herbs, or with Aries oil. Add one drop to each of the problem candles. Set them around the candle in a unique pattern amenable to you. If you would like to, the Square of Mars may be drawn underneath the whole working.
Light the incense, and fumigate the entire space. Begin to get into a meditative space and focus on the forces of Aries aggregating to you. Light the 7-day candle and say:
By the twin horns
By the flame of Spring
By the Ram and Flowing Force
Aries we Invoke
Repeat the final line until you feel the Ram spirit drawing nearer.
Aries, Great Horned One of Spring
We call you now Hear our prayers, hear our pleas
Our desires for the year to make manifest!
Take the list of goals and read it aloud to the Ram. Set the paper underneath the candle. Pick up the carnelian and set it before the candle.
Great Ram, Aries thy name
Come forth and set thy flame to dwell
Within this stone gathered well
I set it before thee, that it may gain thy power
That it may gain thy potency
For this new year
You may inscribe the stone with an image of Aries or the sigils. Pass it through the incense again and set it back before the candle.
Take the flame of the central candle, and speak:
Flaming Ram’s Head come to me
Burn away the old, clear a path for the new
Set each of the red chimes alight, saying the same phrase. Once all are lit, say:
O field of flaming light
By the Stars of the Spring Ram
Burn, burn, burn away
Turn away the old
Clear a path for the new
Repeat this mantra-like, and see the old burn away into the past. Once the candles burn down, gather any remaining wax and dispose of them far from home.
Allow the glass to burn all the way down, and remove the paper from underneath. Take the remains of the red flowers, the carnelian, and the herbs of Aries, and set all of these into a red bag. Once a month, when Aries is on the ascendant, ideally on a Tuesday when the Moon and/or Mars is in Aries, burn a red candle in front of the bag, and feed it on oils, liquors or incense. Speak further charms over it, and bring in the results for the year.
Rite Two: The Sabbatic Ram
This second rite operates in the imaginal and visionary realm, and is done to connect deeper to the Sabbatic Mysteries. This rite should be done as the Moon is Waxing in Aries ideally, or at dusk as the Sun is in Aries on the descendant. To do this, the following materials should be gathered:
● Red Taper Candle
● Myrrh + Dragon’s Blood Incense
● Crossroads Dirt
● Bloodstone
● Lancer + Lancet or Pomegranate Juice
Prior to the ritual, set up the space. With the crossroads dirt, draw out a 3-way (Y-shaped) crossroads, and set the taper (marked with Aries’ sigils) at the center. Set the incense behind the crossroads, and set the Bloodstone at the access point to the roads. Place a drop of your blood onto the stone, or a drop of pomegranate juice mixed with spittle or blood. This stone is now a representation of you.
Additionally, you may strip down bare, or with as few clothes as comfortable. If desired, sacred oils and balms may be anointed upon the body.
Once ready, sit before the crossroads, and perform the Arte Sensorium. Call out:
In this Ram’s-Tide
Under the cover of darkness
I, NN, who was given life by NN
Do so wander to this cross-roads
Do so wander to this cross-roads
Do so wander to this cross-roads
Repeat the final line over and over, slowly seeing yourself where the bloodstone stands, at the crossroads. Begin walking down the road, taking note of the foliage around you, and the scents in the air. Once you reach the center, call out to the Ram, making three bays before saying:
Ram, ram, Aries, ram
I call to you, O ram of the stars
To come down to this place
To come down to this time
O Aries, Aries, Aries
I take you to be my mount
I take you to be my guide
I take you to bid me fly
Fly, fly
To the Grand Sabbat
So appear to me now!
Repeat, until you see a ram appear out of the foliage and walk towards you. Walk towards it and stroke its lovely, starry fur. Greet the ram and whisper to it your name; this may be a secret name or your wake-world name. Tell the ram what your desire is, that you wish to fly to Sabbat upon its back, and that it may take you there with great haste. Let the ram make some form of agreement, and mount its back. Feel the ram pick up pace, and as it runs, see it begin to leap off the ground, flying you to Sabbat.
As you arrive at Sabbat, ensure the ram remains close by, or have some other means of returning home. Enjoy your time, and record your experiences in the wake world.
